The ROBERT HUTSON Award was named after the President's (Tammy McDonald) father. Her father was an exceptional man who exemplified love, compassion, and always had a positive attitude. He was the kind of man that people enjoyed working with and he always went above and beyond for anyone in need. This award was dedicated to his testimony that he lived daily and is given to the employee who exhibits these same qualities. The Robert Hutson Award is chosen by the Management Team at Reliant Hospice to the employee that went way beyond the call of duty. Many times family members/patients write or call and share with us the special things our staff did for them. The Robert Hutson recipient receives recognition at the Monthly Staff meeting, a plaque, along with a check for $500 AND gets to go on the annual Reliant Cruise!
Robert Hutson was diagnosed with Glioblastoma (Brain Cancer) in January 2000. He was immediately put on hospice and passed away in June 2000 in North Carolina. He was a well respected Pastor in the community. His daughter, Tammy McDonald, was profoundly impacted by Hospice during this time and after her father's death went to work for an hospice organization and helped them lobby in Washington, DC for hospice reform. Eventually, she started her own hospice company in South Carolina and dedicates any success to her beloved father.
